There is nothing quite like seeing a bat in the hand at a bat box check, or hearing them through a bat detector on a bat walk or survey! To win over new bat lovers though, the next best thing is hearing about bats and their incredible diversity from some of our passionate members.
London Bat Group members have manned stalls each summer at Imperial College’s Bugs, Birds and Beasts day in Silwood Park for the last three years, and at Wandsworth Park Eco-fair for the last two years. At these events members of the public can find out about bats in London, their ecology, how to support them living alongside us in urban areas, the activities of LBG, and also dispel some old bat myths along the way!
LBG members have also engaged with school children in sessions timed to coincide with Halloween. The aim there is to bring bats away from being seasonal scary creatures of the night, to the lovable, furry mammals they are, and also to encourage our young listeners to spread the word on simple ways we can help them, like planting night-scented plants to attract their prey, and closing curtains in the evening to reduce light pollution.

LBG is able to fund materials for these events so we can keep promoting the welfare of bats in London. If you would like to get involved, please contact us.
